MONOCHROM-ATIC MULBERRY
Artful placement of colour is inherently daring, but the technique can convey a more demure air when focusing on a single colour family. At Rick Owens, a berry shade was used all over the eyes and lips for a harmonious makeup effect. Makeup artist Jenny Sauce demonstrates how to play with different opacities and textures to keep monochromatic colour from looking too monotonous.

THE NEXTCAT EYE
The classic feline flick was reinvented at Moschino, where eyes were defined with black liner that was both simple and bold. In place of the expected wing, geometric strokes extended below the lower lash lines widened the gaze with a subtle subversion. Gilded lids were given daytime appeal at Alberta Ferretti, where flaxen eye shadows were topped with the faintest flashes of gold. DOUBLE-NEGATIVE LINER
At Matty Bovan, perfectly precise liner was abandoned in favour of erratic slashes of navy and slapdash spots of silver to frame the eyes. Inspired by the inventive shape, makeup artist Jaleesa Jaikaran demonstrates how to refine the unconventional two-toned look to make it not only wearable, but your own.

MARQUES ’ ALMEIDA
TEXTURE PLAYKey makeup artist Terry Barber gave black lipstick unexpected ease at Marques ‘ Almeida, where he anchored the rebelliously glossy shade with a seemingly bare complexion. The effect of ultra-dimensional skin was created by deft applications of liquids, creams and powders (a technique even makeup minimalists can benefit from). For maximalists, makeup artist Jaleesa Jaikaran suggests keeping obsidian lips matte for wearability and to retain focus on the sheen-supreme skin.

3D-POPLIPS
Chromat’s sparkling cerulean lips are not for the faint of heart. Translating the rebellious spirit of the look into everyday ease, Makeup Artist Jaleesa Jaikaran chooses a highly pigmented royal blue colour glazed with glinting gloss. The result? Lips that look so 3D, they seem to bounce off the skin.
